William Barker – died 23 March 1907
Elizabeth Barker – died 8 August 1912
William died at 67 years of age.
He was born circa. 1840.
William Barker is on the 1890 electoral roll as a ship’s carpenter in Campbelltown. He is also on the 1893 roll along with his wife, Elizabeth. Only one other Barker is on the list, Jean. By 1896, Jean(nie) is no longer on the electoral roll but Jane McGregor Barker (whose parents are Elizabeth and William) marries John Henderson Reed. This is obviously their daughter. She is buried in Invercargill’s Eastern Cemetery with her husband and one son. Another son is remembered on the gravestone.
This is possibly William and Elizabeth’s son? 1939. A William Barker was born to an Elizabeth and William Barker in 1874.
The possible/probable son is buried in Block 8 Plot 174, buried with his wife Caroline Barker (nee Burnby). Caroline’s sister is also buried with them. She married a John Burnett. I wonder if he was related to Captain William Burnett with whom William Barker Snr was in business with?

It is very likely that these are their children. I am confident that William, Jane and Elizabeth are the children of this couple but am not so confident about John. I have now found that John was born in Stewart Island, though, it is, therefore likely to be their son.
