William James Moody – died 13 March 1915 ( Nb: NZ BDM, newspaper, and council records all use this date yet tombstone says 10 March 1915)
With a large headstone, it is easy to see (through the lichen) who is buried in the plot.
Of my dear husband
Native of Belfast
Who died 10th March 1915
Aged 66 years
Thy will be done
His death notice provided some information of his life.
Electoral rolls show where he lived and what he did.
And, of course, his death was in 1915.
I have not purchased his death certificate as I believe the only new information it will provide is his parents names. His wife’s certificate is possibly a better use of $20.40 as it will tell me if her child (see below) was still alive at the time of her death.
The NZETC entry for him, published in 1905, showed they had a son.
NZETC claims the marriage took place in 1888. NZ Births, Deaths, and Marriages says 12 February 1890.
I have still not found the son. He looks to be around 10-14 years old in the 1905 publication. The photo was taken by Karl Andreas Gerstenkorn who operated in Invercargill from 1891-1906. A search of births with the name of Moody between 1888-1898 provides no possibilities even when allowing for typos. A search using the name Price with the same parameters shows a possibility. If the 1890 marriage is correct, it is a real possibility.
I may need to buy a printout to confirm. Ancestry is showing the birth to be in Ellesmere though.
